 need to broaden our horizon and explore other comparative contexts for Rom
 e. This seminar will seek to situate the experience of Roman state-formati
 on among other vast\, universal empires of Eurasia\, from the Achaemenids\
 , to the Ottomans\, the Mughals and the Qing dynasty. Come join what could
